First 5 - 1 Hayling United

Home | 29 September 2018
The last couple of weeks haven’t been kind to us with injuries, suspensions and players away with no exception today! Today we were bare bones but still had to perform to stay on course for a top 5 finish.

We started well with good possession and high energy which was causing Hayling problems from the outset.

In what seems to be a recurring theme for us this season we let some glorious chances go begging before getting the breakthrough in the most basic fashion on 14 mins, Simon Parker claimed the ball and quickly kicked it upfield over the Hayling backline for Danny Phillips to race into it and audaciously lob the stranded Hayling keeper, 1-0

It wasn’t long before the lead was doubled, Callum Parker and Andrew Powell combining brilliantly down the left which allowed Andrew to find time in the box and blast the ball left footed past the keeper,2-0.

Again chances went begging until the 39th minute, Jamie White found himself on the left wing with a Hayling defender in tow but managed to jink past him and pick out Danny who was unmarked at the back post, Danny brought the ball down neatly and arrowed it past the keeper, 3-0.

One minute before the break Danny Phillips completes his first half hattrick, Callum parker hit a lovely diagonal to Danny who brought the ball down fantastically, cut inside the defender and finish clinically from 12 yards, 4-0.

The second half we had poor ethic and hayling took advantage of this by scoring an early breakaway goal after the hayling forward pounced on a poor header and fired left footed across Simon parker into the net, 4-1.

The game seemed subdued and almost friendly like even tho we had 2 goals ruled out and what seemed dead cert goals not converted.

It was eventually the 78th minute when we scored again, Josh Cripps set Callum parker away who won the race against the hayling keeper and lifted the ball over him with the outside of his right foot and into the net, 5-1.

Poor finishing and a lacklustre second half was the difference from turning a 5-1 win into potentially double figures but 3 points nonetheless and back to winning ways.
