First 3 - 1 Lyndhurst

Away | 06 October 2018
Today we were in cup action against high flying Hampshire one league leaders, Lyndhurst.

We started out ok, moving the ball well and creating a few half chances but looked vulnerable on the counter attack.

Boud and Phillips were causing the Lyndhurst back line issues with runs in behind and both should have scored at least one each before a rash tackle in the area gave Lyndhurst the chance to take the lead from the spot, the resulting penalty was blazed over by the Lyndhurst forward.

After being let off the hook we unsurprising this season failed to convert good chances and against the run of play a counter attack gave the Hants one toppers the lead, 1-0.

It was a kick up the backside we needed and piled on the pressure until we finally converted through Jamie Whites lovely curled effort from the edge of the box after a lay off from Sam Alexander-Floyd, 1-1.

The second half we started much more assured and confident on the ball with better conviction in our play.

Whilst Lyndhurst still looked dangerous on the counter we were in complete control of the game and laziness crept in at times.

It was quite end to end for a spell until a shot from Danny Phillips ricocheted nicely for Wayne Boud to volley in from close range, 1-2.

We continued to have the better of the game and but for a few good interventions, could have gone further in front.

It wasn’t until the 82nd minute when the game was “put to bed”, a dangerous wicked cross from White was turned into his own net by the Lyndhurst centre back, 1-3.

The game played out after the goal and although it wasn’t the best performance we progress to the next round.
